Speaker Series: Shingles vaccination in adults 50 years and older

This publication summarises a breakfast symposium on shingles vaccination held on Sunday 27th March at the Goodfellow Symposium 2022 online event. The symposium was presented by Dr Jenny Visser, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago and Kim Robb, a Registered Nurse and Immunisation Specialist. Sponsorship for the symposium was provided by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).

Since the symposium took place, the Zostavax shingles vaccine has been discontinued in New Zealand. Once Zostavax stocks have been exhausted, Shingrix will be funded for people aged 65 years. Shingrix may now be given by trained pharmacists without the need for a doctor's prescription.
