This publication summarises key points from a breakfast symposium presented by Associate Professor Robert Young at the Rotorua General Practice Conference & Medical Exhibition (GP CME) in June 2023. It discusses the burden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), in particular breathlessness and exacerbations, and the importance of screening for symptoms. Up-to-date recommendations for pharmacological management of COPD are summarised, including new advice from the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD).
