Debbie Ryan

Debbie Ryan is the principal of Pacific Perspectives and has wide experience in the health sector as a clinician, and in governance, management, public policy development, regulation, national standards, implementation and health service delivery in New Zealand and the Pacific.  Debbie has twenty years of involvement in the health sector. She is a medical practitioner and a former public service leader of Pacific health policy and implementation. Debbie established Pacific Perspectives in 2008.  Debbie is Samoan.

Debbie's professional life has been dedicated to Pacific health.  Her key areas of interest have been health inequalities, primary care, evidence based healthcare policy and the service delivery interface with Pacific populations.  Her focus in the past three years has been Pacific workforce and leadership development and leadership of cultural competence approaches in health.

Debbie has been involved in most Pacific focused projects associated with the primary care strategy and public health initiatives at a national level over the past decade.  Hers is a unique experience in achieving change for Pacific people at all levels of the design and delivery of the health system.

Debbie selects the articles and coordinates the commentaries for Pacific Health Review.
